So Very Grateful Emerald Pencil Colored Leaves Background Card with Yana

Hello friends! This is Yana and I hope you are having a fabulous week!

For today’s blog post I decided to continue exploring DIY pencil colored backgrounds. Check out my first blog post in this mini-series HERE (please link to my previous post - Dream Big Indigo Pencil Colored Leaves Background Card with Yana).

I looked through my stash in search of large, outline images with little to no detail and came across these leaves from the Modern Peonies stamp set. You can also use leaves from other WPlus9 floral sets or try using other images altogether.

Once again I prepped my black cardstock panel with an anti-static powder tool and stamped leaves making sure to overlap them a bit, but not too much. Next, I covered my panel with Gold embossing powder and before heat setting it used a small dry paintbrush and cleaned away any embossing powder where my images intersected. See my previous post mentioned above for more details on this technique.

After heat embossing I picked 2 colors of green pencils from my Polychromos set from Faber Castell - Dark Phthalo Green and Emerald Green and started coloring the leaves. I wanted the base of the leaves to be darker, but I didn’t have any darker green colors, so I decided to use Dark Indigo to darken the colors and create shadows.

The coloring process went rather quickly and I can’t say it took me longer than 30 minutes. I am really enjoying this technique at the moment and I’m already planning my next card.

Once my coloring was completed I adhered my panel onto an A2 white card base. To create a sentiment I heat embossed "So Very Grateful" from the Grateful Greetings in same Gold embossing powder onto a piece of white cardstock and foam mounted it onto the card.

Have fun stamping!

Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember® 2017: Humble And Kind

Hello! I am finally back in the saddle! Thanks to all of you who kept us in your thoughts during Hurricane Irma, I definitely felt the love! The kids returned to school today and internet hasn't gone out in about 12 hours, so here we go!

I'm excited to share the set that we designed for STAMPtember® 2017 available exclusively at Simon Says Stamp while supplies last.

STAMPtember® 2017: Humble and Kind

These tulips are illustrated in the same style as our Modern florals series. This makes them perfect for all coloring mediums, but also for pairing with any of the existing sets you may already have from this collection! For my first couple of cards, I added a few leaves from our Modern Peonies set.

These images look gorgeous in Copics and no-line coloring. However, I wanted to share how stunning these images look with very simple coloring - even no coloring! My new obsessions are mixing colored with uncolored images, and mixing solid with outlined images. I love the modern vibe it brings along with the stark contrast.

I started by stamping several of two of the single tulips along with the leaves from Modern Peonies onto Distress Watercolor Cardstock in Black PURE Color Dye Ink. I watercolored them all using Distress Inks very quickly. Very. Quickly. You can see below that I did not fuss with these at all.

Once they were dry, I used their respective dies to cut them all out and then went to town making several cards. For the first one, I created a cluster at the top and bottom of a panel that I die cut using our 4 Bar Stitched Rectangles Die and then stamped the sentiment from Humble and Kind in our Black PURE Color Dye Ink. I then added a few uncolored stamped images to each cluster in the same ink.

For the next card, I used my favorite sentiment set at the moment - our Southern Sentiments set. I can't get enough of it, and it's perfect to say "thanks" when you're tired of literal "thank you" sentiments.

For this one, I kept all of the tulips the same color and created three clusters arranged in a triangle formation around the edges of the card. You'll notice that I created each cluster in varied sizes from smallest to biggest. I placed the two smaller clusters on the left side of the card and the larger cluster on the right to balance the card.

For the third card in this set, I used purple and red tulips. I used the same basic layout as the previous card, but swapped out the sentiment and stamped it on the right vs. the left this time. I popped some of the tulips up on foam tape for all three cards and adhered some flat for variety and dimension.

I just love this set and could see all of them being put to good use as "thank you" cards.

My final card today also showcases how lined images don't always have to be immaculately colored to have a great impact. Although, in truth, I almost didn't post this card....but....I know some of you will feel my pain on this one.

Have you ever been creating a card and you're thinking to yourself, "oh yeah, this is so awesome! So pretty! It's exactly what I was envisioning!"?Only to have the card mock you, laugh at you, and refuse to be photogenic! Yeah, that's what happened here. In real life, amazing. In photos, not so much. I tried for no less than 4 hours to photographic a few of these (yes, there are several and this was the *most* photogenic of the bunch). I tried dark backdrops, like backdrops, staging, no staging. I went "Happy Gilmore" on these cards. Not proud, but not lying. LOL

So, to create this camera shy beast, I stamped my tulips and then masked them off. I then used our Autumn Leaves set (another of my personal favorites) to stamp some foliage in the background. I removed the masks and added to the most simple and basic Copic coloring to the single tulips and left the tulip clusters uncolored. Aside from the fact that I now have a personal hatred for this cards stubborn attitude and downright refusal to photograph well...I do really love the technique. Maybe it's the color. You know, purple and I aren't really on speaking terms either. Hmm.

Enough of my craziness! I really hope you enjoyed this look at the STAMPtember® 2017 Exclusive set Humble and Kind. I've seen a bunch of amazing projects featuring it already. Be sure to stop by the Simon Says Stamp Blog for more on this set!

Bunny Mask-erade With Kara

Hello Guys! So, summer is drawing to a close, school has started and I'm turning my attention toward fall. When I think of fall I think cool cozy nights, falling leaves and, of course, Halloween!

This adorable set, Bunny Mask-erade, was released this time last year. I was in the process of moving into our new house and I never had a chance to play around with it. I thought this was the perfect time to pull it out and ink it up for the first time!

As always with a new set, I start by die cutting a ton of pieces. I always make a mistake or two, trying different things to see what I like, so I really appreciate taking the time to die cut ahead of time and not have to keep getting up and die cutting more.

I started coloring in these cute little masks. I wanted the masks to stand out against the little bunnies so I left them quite simple with just a swipe of a light gray T1 Copic Marker. This also keeps the coloring to a minimum. Since this is an invitation, mass production was a consideration. Keeping the coloring simple will make the process much quicker. I attached the masks to the bunnies with some foam adhesive. I then& colored the accessories with Copics and also added a some shimmer with a clear Wink Of Stella brush pen.

The background is created simply by sponging on some Distress Inks. A little green at the bottom to create grass, a little blue at the top for the sky. I kept the background technique simple, again for ease in mass production.

Thank you so much for stopping by today!

Dream Big Indigo Pencil Colored Leaves Background Card with Yana

Hello friends! This is Yana and I hope you are having a fabulous week!

I am back to sharing unique diy patterns you can create using your stamps. This time I was inspired by an image that I spotted on Pinterest and decided to try coloring one of the leaves from the Autumn Leaves set in gorgeous blues.

Even though these leaves are meant for Fall, by changing up the colors you can use them to create a dramatic background such as the one I am sharing today.

I started working on my card by stamping one of the leaves repeatedly (in a random fashion) onto a black cardstock panel. I first prepped my panel using an anti static powder tool and stamped images using embossing ink.

I made sure to overlap leaves a bit, but not too much. After covering the entire panel with gold embossing powder I used a small dry brush and removed powder where I had the leaves intersect making it look like some were on top of the others. I learned this easy technique from my friend Svitlana - she has a video tutorial showing how this is done. This eliminates the need to do masking when creating a background like this and makes stamping process go a lot faster.

Next I pulled out my Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils and colored in my leaves using Dark Indigo and Cobalt Turquoise. Coloring took a bit of time - I first added a darker Dark Indigo color at the base of the leaves, colored tips using Cobalt Turquoise and to blend the two together went over ⅔ of the leaves with the Dark Indigo. You can also use Prismacolor Pencils for this technique.

Once my coloring was done I trimmed this panel to 4 x 5 ¼” and foam mounted onto an A2 side folding card base. I added a simple “Dream Big” sentiment on top and embellished this card using clear dots created using Nuvo drops in Morning Dew.

Have fun stamping!
